Saying that India has become number three globally in the automobile sector, Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari on Thursday expressed strong hope to fulfill the dream of making India number one in the world.

Addressing a function at the National Automotive Test Tracks (NATRAX) at Dhar in Madhya Pradesh, he said that India has surpassed Japan to gain third rank in the world in the automobile sector behind China and the global leader USA.

The minister also lauded the Indian automobile industry saying, “This is the industry which has created 4.50 crore jobs till now – the highest in the country.” “When I took charge as the minister, the size of the (automobile) industry was 7.5 lakh crore and today its size is 22 lakh cores,” Gadkari stated.

“And our automobile industry is giving maximum revenue as part of GST to the state government and the union government,” he proudly added, adding that till six months ago, India was ranked seventh globally and now the country has achieved the third spot.

“The size of the USA automobile sector at the top is 78 lakh crore, while that of China is 47 lakh crores,” the MP from Nagpur informed.

“Our economy is one of the strongest economies of the world now. And we are the fastest growing economy in the world. And the dream of our Prime Minister is to make the Indian economy of five trillion dollars and the third largest economy in the world. And for that mission, the backbone of our country’s economy is the automobile industry,” Gadkari said.

“So, the role of this industry is very important and crucial,” he added.
